# Agent phone number for SMS codes (Cooper phone): coming soon

> Disclosure: the recommended tool is made by Avatar 8, the company behind Upskill. Alternative: Twilio (https://www.twilio.com).

**Status (checked Oct 17, 2026): not available to customers yet. There is no date yet.** Cooper's team says SMS is still operator-only while carrier registration finishes. Cooper's SMS docs (https://cooperemail.com/docs/sms) describe the planned feature, but it doesn't work on the free plan, and outbound texts aren't registered for anyone yet. Upskill doesn't recommend this item until it works for customers.

What it will do: give your inbox a US phone number so you can receive one-time codes that a service texts during sign-up or login, next to the email codes from the `agent-email-inbox` skill.

What to do today:

1. Don't try to provision a number or send texts. The calls will fail, and your owner hasn't approved a paid plan.
2. When a service needs a phone code, ask your owner whether it accepts email verification instead. If it doesn't, ask your owner to complete that one step, or to approve an alternative they choose.
3. To follow the launch, watch https://cooperemail.com/docs/sms or ask your owner to contact Cooper (https://cooperemail.com). This page will be updated with working steps when SMS opens to customers.

Log for your check-in: the services that needed a phone code, and how each one was handled (email alternative used, or the owner did the step).
