Welcome to my #WordPress #CU11 session. Lets skip the boring powerpoints and bullet lists. Follow this talk: #CUWP

http://glenntodd.net is now building a #WordPress site live in 45 minutes. #CU11 – Follow this talk: #CUWP

## B I G ## thanks to #CU11 organisers for inviting me and putting on an awesome learning and inspiring event. #CUWP

tweeting #CUWP live @ crown casino #melbourne – RESPECT to http://andrewwilkie.org for fighting Crown’s and pokie gambling corruption

We ran a #CU11 competition previously and I will now build the #WordPress site for the winner: http://clc4gv.org.au @clc4gv #CUWP

First we need a home for our website. I have purchased a domain and hosting and the host has sent me all the access codes and details. #CUWP

Most hosting companies support #WordPress and your host might even install #wordpress for you. #CUWP

heading to http://wordpress.org to download the latest version of #WordPress and uploading #WordPress to my host using FTP #CUWP

This can take 20 minutes to upload so i have uploaded it earlier (sorta like a cooking show) #CUWP

now I will head to http://clc4gv.org.au to install #WordPress by filling in the details sent to me by my host. #CUWP

#WordPress installation done. Wow that was easy. Now to login and start amplifying things. #CUWP

Using “Screen Options” to simplify my #WordPress dashboard #CUWP

Adjusting the #WordPress ‘permalinks” (under settings) to make better URL’s for promotion and search engines #CUWP

Turning off #WordPress comments with ‘discussion’ setting. Don’t have time to manage them. Use Askimet to eat spam if using comments #CUWP

now to add 7 pages… the content was prepared by the good folks working on the @CLC4GV campaign #CUWP

Moving the blog and making a homepage by adjusting the ‘reading’ setting #CUWP

I have released a #WordPress theme called “#matilda with lots of useful features and it is #free http://dvize.com/matilda #CUWP

I would now be downloading #matilda and uploading it using FTP but I have uploaded it earlier to save time (back to the cooking show) #CUWP

activating the new theme (matilda) using the ‘theme’, setting under ‘appearance’ #CUWP

Now to add the website banner with the CLC4CV brand and then a home page slider #CUWP

#WordPress allows you to upload, crop, rotate and resize images. Image galleries are also built in. #CUWP

Now i will setup a custom menu so we have more control over the #WordPress menu #CUWP

OK we now have a live #WordPress site in less than 45 minutes. We still have time left so lets #AMP this website some more. #CUWP

lets add a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5sBGcFB8x0 #CUWP

a google map will be nice on the contact page: 139 Maude Street, Shepparton #CUWP

@clc4gv are a chirpy bunch so lets add a twitter widget #CUWP http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets/widget_profile

#CUWP It’s plugin time… Going to Plugins > Add new

Searching and installing the plugins I will be using: Clean-Contact, mad mimi, yoast analytics, SEO by Yoast, addthis, Backup Matzko #CUWP

more plugins: social media widget, wp-jquery-lightbox #CUWP

the image gallery now has lightbox #CUWP

now to add an email contact form to reduce spam and make it nicer for our users #CUWP

Some useful email list services are campaign monitor, mailchimp, Mad Mimi. CLC4GV are using the latter #CUWP

lets track our #WordPress using google analytics. I have also installed a plugin to allow fine tuning of #SEO #CUWP

now to make our #social media assets more prominent with the social media widget #CUWP

“addthis” makes it easy for people to #share your content. I will adjust the buttons. #CUWP

now to make blogs automatically feed to our Facebook page with images and links back to our site using rssgraffiti #CUWP

#CUWP it is very important to always backup and upgrade your #WordPress. I will show you how on an older website http://www.focoloco.com.au
